The Okemathli tribe
Khana and her companions belong to the small (fictional) tribe of Okemathli, a tribe that lives in the constellation of other small tribes that inhabited the Americas of the time. In fact, the largest and most well-known Nations are only the tip of the iceberg of the variety of peoples, language groups and cultures that colored the territory – who knows how many weren’t recorded by history.
To respect the existing cultures, it was chosen to take inspiration by pieces of different traditions and aesthetics of the peoples of south american territory to create this new fictional one that could fit into that context while not disturbing or wrongly narrate specific cultures, whose heritages are precious and alive still today. — (author comment)
The main symbol of the tribe is the circle with the three stripes directed downwards (Khana has often painted it on her face). It represents the Sun pointing its rays towards the Earth and its people, and it is the main force and “deity” to the Okemathli.
